Nara Park and Todai-ji Temple

Nara Park is famous for having wild deer just wandering around and that's what we wanted to see. Like most things in Japan, we got that and so much more. It was another nice sunny day and Nara is a very pleasant small town with independant shops. We strolled up in the direction of the park and sure enough, the park was teeming with them. There were small herds of about 20 all throughout the forest park. It was fantastic. You could buy deer crackers for 150 yen. Such good fun.
Once through the park, you reach Todai-ji Temple. An enormous temple with an enormous Buddha. It was supremely busy, hundreds or thousands of mostly Japanese tourist, so it was difficult to gain any serenity from the experience but it was still beautiful. The shrine was very big and had some other worthy statues in it.
We fed the deer on the way back too but some of them were just crackered out and were napping in the shade. With my hangover still hanging in the air, I knew how they felt. Back to to Kyoto for a much needed rest.
